In 802.11a mode, the EM9-AB is a 5GHz 54Mbps Wireless LAN client adapter that is Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.11a-compliant 32 bit mini PCI adapter that operates in the UNII-1 and UNII-2 bands. The ultra high speed and throughput enables the rapid wireless transfer of bandwidth-intensive data such as multimedia streams and large data files within the enterprise.

In 802.11b mode, based on direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technology and operating in the 2.4 GHz band, the EM9-AB provides an Ethernet-like data rate of up to 11 megabits per second (Mbps).

For investment protection, the EM9-AB conforms to the IEEE 802.11a and 802.11b standard, ensuring interoperability with equipment available from a variety of vendors. It is fully compatible with most popular network operating systems. The EM9-AB can be seamlessly integrated into wired Ethernet networks, as a complement or alternative to the wired LAN products available today.

Options:

Some laptops (e.g. Dell Inspiron 8000) need a mini-coaxial jumper cable to interconnect the integrated the antenna and the card. We sell these jumper cables for $19.95 each.

If you do not have an integrated antenna in your laptop, we sell generic antennae for $19.95 each. Two antennae are recommended for usage with these cards. The performance of these antennae will vary depending upon the structure and shielding of your laptop.

This Mini-PCI card works in almost ANY laptop with a mini PCI slot, and integrated antenna. This includes, but is not limited to Dell Inspiron 4000, 4100, 4150, 5000, 5100, 600m 8000, 8100, 8200, 8500, Latitude C600, C610, C620, C640, C800, C810, C820, C840, D600, D800, Precision M50 Workstation notebooks; Toshiba Tecra, Satellite Pro, some IBM Thinkpads (T40, X31 & R40), ArmComputer CR10 and MANY MANY OTHERS!!!

Certain Toshiba and ARM laptops require special instructions for successful installation. Please mention that you have a Toshiba when ordering.
